Getting Started

File naming

1.

PROJECT FILE NAMES

Project Files must be named using the following format

Project Number - Project Name Abbreviation - Role Initials - Basic File  Description

00900 - MHD - FMT - Main Building

(MHD - Montego Housing Development, FMT - Focus Model Technician)

2.

REVIT LEVEL NAMES

Revit level names should be set/changed in the project browser. When changing the level names in the viewport, set the following to 'NO.'

"Would you like to rename corresponding views?"

Main Levels (representing the floor levels of the building)

Level names should be preceded by a two digit number representing the floor for which the level represents. (00 for Ground Floor, 01 for First Floor etc.)

Secondary Levels (Supplementary levels to the main floor )

If a secondary Revit level is needed for a floor, the two digit number should be followed by a letter  (01a or 01b etc.) This is typically used for important change in floor levels that differs slightly to the main level.  (Mezzanine , walkway etc.)

E.g.  01b - Sunken Living Level

Basement Levels

For floors that exist below the Ground Floor, the names of these levels should be preceded by an hyphen, the letter B followed by a number representing the level below the ground floor.

Basement 1 would be named

      -B1 - Underground Parking Level 1

Basement 1 would be named

      -B2 - Underground Parking Level 2

Foundation Levels

If necessry, the Revit Level representing the level of the foundation should be named as follows - hyphen, followed by "01" and then T.O. Footing where T.O represents "Top Of."

-01 - T.O. Footing

NOTE

These naming standards are all incorporated into the default Project Templates that should be used for all projects.

3.

3D Modelling Software Object names

If the 3d modelling software allows for the naming of the individual objects:

1. Object Names (For Individual Objects)

  • Place the following at the start of the object name "model_"

  • Eliminate spaces between individual words of the object name

  • Capitalize each word after"model_"

E.g. For a Dining table Chair (model_DiningTableChair)

2. Object Group Names (For set of grouped Objects)

  • Place the following at the start of the group name "modelGrp_"

  • Eliminate spaces between individual words of the group name

  • Capitalize each word after"modelGrp_"

E.g. For a Dining table and Chairs (modelGrp_DiningSet)

3. Light Objects (For lights created within 3d modelling software - NOT the Light Fixtures)

  • Place the following at the start of the object name "light_"

  • Eliminate spaces between individual words of the light name

  • Capitalize each word after"light_"

E.g. For a recessed light (light_RecessedLight3)
