SETUP BACKUPS

Set the Revit Number of backups to ten (10).

This is done in the 'Save As' Dialog box. At the lower corner of the dialog box, click 'Options' then enter 10 into the 'Maximum backups' field at the top. Click 'Ok' to apply this setting.

SAVE FREQUENTLY

Attempt to save your files at least once every 20 mins at a minimum.
